Disease IMMUNISTION SCHEDULE
   
Treatment

Make It your reflex and routine, to ask about immunization every child under 5 years, that comes to you, for whatever complaint.

 

Age: At birth

Vaccine: BCG 0.1 ml intredermal over left deltoid area. + oral polio 2 drops + HBV 0.5 ml IM

 

Age: 4weeks

Vaccine: HBV 0.5 ml IM

 

Age: At 6,10 and 14 weeks

Vaccine: DPT 0.5 ml IM + Oral Poilo 2 drops.

 

Age: At 18 weeks

Vaccine: Oral polio 2 drops (Total 5 doses)

 

Age: 6 months – 8 months

Vaccine: HBV 0.5ml IM + Measles vaccine 0.5ml SC

 

Age: 15 months

Vaccine: MMR Vaccine 0.5 mlSC

 

Age: 1 ½ years

Vaccine: DPT 0.5ml IM + Oral polio 2 drops (booster dose)

 

Age: 2 years

Vaccine: Typhoid Vi vaccine

 

Age: 3 and 5 years

Vaccine: D.T. 0.5ml IM + Oral polio 2 drops (booster dose)

 

Age: 10 years

Vaccine: T.T. 0.5 ml IM

 

Remember:

 

BCG can be given ay time upto 5 months, but us ideally give in the first week.

 

Polio should not be given if child has diarrhea. Breast feeding should not be done 1 hour before and after oral polio vaccine Baby should wait in the clinic for 1 hour and in case baby vomits, repeat the dose.

 

If one dose of polio is missed for 1 month, repeat all doses again.

 

DPT: Vaccine is not give after 5 years age, as pertusis is contrainindicated. So at and after 5 years. Only dual antigen 1e DT is to be given.

 

AIDS affected children should not be given any of the Live attenuated vaccines like, MMR, Measles, Oral Polio, Orla Typhoid, and Varicella Vaccine. Give IPV-Inactivated Polio vaccine.

 

If Hepatitis B vaccine was not given at birth, it can be at any age later with a 0, 1 and 6 months schedule.

 

Also recommended (not compulsory)

 

Typhim Ci (Typhoid vaccine) 0.5 ml IM after the age of 2 years – repeat every 3 years.

After 6 years age, oral vaccine may be give. Ty-21a Oral vaccine 1 cap OD, to taken eary morning on empty stomach on alternalte days x 3 capsules, Repeat 5 years.

 

Hib titer (H. Influenxa vaccine) 0.5 ml IM, single dose – if age > 1year.

For infants, give 4 doses- 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks, then 14 months.

 

VArilix (Varicela vaccine) 0.5 ml subcut, Single dose at 11/2 – 2 years.

If age > 13 years and not had chicken pox, then 2 doses, 6-10 weeks apart.

 

Pneumo 23 (Pneumococcal vaccine) 0.5 ml IM or Subcut, single dose, after 2 years age. Not be repeated. Immunity for 5 years.

 

Meningococcal vaccine 0.5ml, Subcut, single dose after the age of 2 years. Earlier only if the infant has come in contact with a patient of Menigococcal Meningitis.

 

In Africa and South America, Yellow fever vaccine is given at 9 months age.
